As cooler air is approaching, it is a great time to get some outdoor exercise and notice some of the seasonal changes.  The Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary and Middle School class is excited to introduce the Fitness Challenge for the 2015-2016 school year. The students will be running/walking a marathon, 26.2 miles, over the course of the year. We will run or walk 25 milieus outside of school and will complete the final 1.2 miles as a culminating event on Sunday, April 17th prior to Open House at Monnig Middle School.

In order to help students track their progress, they will log their miles in their personal log book. We encourage parents to help students track their running/walking adventures.  Each mile will be logged with an observation of their run/walk. We encourage you to set a goal with your child in order to help them complete their marathon by April 17th (example: 1 mile a week). Your child’s run/walk can be completed in a variety of ways to fit within your lifestyle. For example, walking around the neighborhood, park, or during shopping trips in a mall or store could all count towards their goal.

We invite all students and families, not just those with Elementary and Middle School students, to join in our Fitness Challenge. You can log your progress yourselves over the course of the next few months.

The finish line is an important marker of success related to physical activity and nutrition. Thank you for your support and encouragement of a healthy lifestyle.

Please look for your child’s marathon log booklet to be sent home later this week.
